How we do Church

Gospel Communities

God is incredibly inclusive.

He longs for all people to be adopted into his family. That’s why our mission statement is this: Loving the people of Willagee, and the City of Melville and beyond by living Common Lives. The next part of our mission statement is about living Common Lives.

We do this through Gospel Communities.

Gospel Communities are the primary way The Common mobilises people on mission and connects people to a caring community. A GC is a group of 8-15 people, who are united through Christian community around a common mission / witness to a particular neighbourhood or network of relationships. The GC doesn’t exist for anything less than making disciples of Jesus among these networks or neighbourhoods.

To clarify, a Gospel Community is not primarily a small group, bible study, support group, social activist group, or weekly meeting.

Each Gospel Community Will:

  1. Be led by a team of leaders who are committed to supporting the individuals and group grow in their love for God, one another and for the Lost.

  2. Grow in their love for God - We do this in many ways, but the primary way is through Discipleship Groups (D Groups). These groups are 3-4 people that meet regularly doing Bible studies or using discipleship resources to grow and mature in their relationship with God. This of course is over lapping into the next focus…

  3. Grow in their love for one another - A major value of GC’s is being together! This is done through meals, games, D Groups, etc. The heart of GC’s is doing life together, so inviting other members of the GC to your kids footy games, having a movie night—maybe even doing the grocery shopping together! It’s about finding the things you are already doing and inviting your Gospel Community into it.

  4. Grow in love and discipleship of the Lost - This part of a GC is about looking for ways to include people may not be walking with Jesus yet. A GC might invite them to a meal, or the GC might have a project or event to invite their friends to with the intention of sharing the Gospel with them.

We are friends with Soma Australia who help train and empower us in this area of church life.

Sunday Gatherings

The Common runs these gatherings on Sundays at 4pm at the Willagee Community Centre. This is when Gospel Communities come together for corporate worship, fellowship, and teaching.
